The Butte des Châtaigniers
North-west of the town, the Butte des Châtaigniers rises to almost one hundred and sixty metres and reveals a rare panorama over Paris, La Défense and the Seine valley. Classed as a sensitive natural area, it protects meadows, orchards and quiet paths. Climbing up there at sunset, with a picnic in the bag, is a date idea as simple as it is effective for keeping the conversation flowing high above the city.
City parks and hillsides
Lower down, the Riverbank Park follows the Seine, while Lacreuse Park and Van Gogh Park offer lawns, playgrounds and shaded benches. The Argenteuil hillsides, which once produced a famous wine, are explored through small steep green lanes. A little further, the quiet, wild Marante Island can be approached from the quays: perfect for a walk together, away from the bustle.
Great green lungs nearby
Twenty minutes away, you step into the Saint-Germain-en-Laye Forest, a huge oak and beech woodland dotted with clearings. Cyclists trace long loops there, and strollers happily get lost. On Lyad, people from Argenteuil share their favourite corners; it is up to you to find someone to slip away one Sunday, long enough for a walk and a hot chocolate at the forest cabin.
